During his career, Mulkey has worked with famous actors Robert DiNiro and Wesley Snipes in The Fan, John Tavolta and Christian Slater in Broken Arrow, Warren Beatty and Halle Barry in Bullworth, Sylvester Stallone in First Blood, and Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in 48hrs. He is known for tough guy roles with a soft sensitive side.
Mulkey is respected in the industry. "I love this business and have done about every aspect of making movies; I have acted, performed stunts, directed, written, edited and produced my way through Hollywood", states Mulkey. "The creative process has been good for me. In 1989 I co-wrote and co-starred in Patti Rocks which almost won Mulkey Best Independent Picture, and Bad Business which won the Antarctic Film Festival
For his 70th feature, Mulkey spent five weeks in a super maximum security prison. American Girl is a story about a girl (Malone) who hasn't seen her imprisoned father (Mulkey) in ten years. She takes her mother (Forbes) for a visit. The daughter remembers her father to be a nice guy, but in reality he is a bad dude. Mulkey and Collins play prison mates.
"The chemistry ws so good between us that director, Jordon Bradly often let us roll with our scenes. I was surprised how well the ensemble worked together. We actually became a family during production - albeit a dysfunctional family," smiles Mulkey. "In addition, I was lucky to be able to write and sing an original song for the film. In the mocie, my daughter's childhood perception about me is a fantasy and the children's song I wrote reflects this."
Besides acting, Mulkey recently entered the musical world by perfoming Americana-style rock/blues on stages around Los Angeles. He recently did a benefit performance with Jackson Brown, Coolio and Ed Townsend.
Mulkey's show Any Day Now, currently in its fourth season co-starring Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint, plans to film a full length television movie about friendship and civil rights, set in Alabama/Mississippi for the season's grand finale. It will quite possibly be Mulkey's 71st movie.
"It ws an honor to work with Nancy Miller (producer/writer), who picked the crucial topic of racism that was a milestone in our nation's growth," reflects Mulkey. "Gary Randall got it on television for four fabulous years. I am sure the movie will be pivotal."
Mulke has had five television series and his credits include ABC's Twin Peaks, Fox's Bakersfield P.D., and HBO's Vietnam War Stories. He was also in the Emmy Award winning Roe v. Wade with Holly Hunter and Weapons of Mass Distraction with Ben Kingsley.
When not acting, Mulkey can be found playing his guitar or harmonica at home and cooking special meals for his family and friends. His actress/artist wifr, Karen Landry recently began showing her art in Los Angeles Galleries. Mulkey writes and sings original tunes echoing rock, country and blues. His CD's are available in the web store.
